Guitarist does wonders with Beatle songs

(2/5/03) National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion Steven King, a tremendous instrumentalist, is also a Beatle fan. That's very lucky for all of us. King has issued six CDs of his versions of Beatle songs through
his website We've heard our share of Beatle covers, including guitar-oriented ones, but we have to say, in all honesty, that King's guitar work on these songs the most beautiful we've ever heard. No song is repeated over the six CDs, which are available for $16 each (and King says there may be at least one more CD's worth of songs he can do).

In an email, King discussed his technique:

I have devoted a lifetime of sacrifice to developing a very special style of solo guitar playing, and in fact I tour the world teaching this style as one of only 10 artists who are clinicians for the Taylor Guitar company (we perform at small audience "clinics" at various guitar stores and small venues, and we are all different in the music we play). My guitar style includes four key elements of music, melody, chords, rhythm, and walking bass lines, all performed simultaneously, and always with J.S. Bach's best gift to the music world in mind, counterpoint. As difficult as this juggling act may appear at first sight and at first listen, I teach it in a way that inspires an average guitarist to be able to capture the correct thinking and approach in one session, and start to master it. In fact, I put all my moves into each of my tablature arrangements available at the same web site... another good way for guitarists to pick up the style.

We heartily recommend you take a listen to the audio clips posted on his site and judge for yourself.
