Paul Anaheim 10/25/02

(10/30/02) From Gene Bednarchik:

Just a quick review for you all. Friday night in Anahiem. Two nights before the Angels dominated the Giants in 7 games, it was raining for the first time in So Cal in months. But inside the Arena at around 6:00p.m. you could hear the sound check. Paul ran through several songs including Honey Don't, Matchbox and Coming Up.

The doors flew open at around 7:00p.m. and the smell of that wonderful pre-concert incense filled the air. (Does anyone know the scent)?!!! The show did start a bit late, the performers did their usual. I dont know about any of the rest of you all, but when I sit and relax, I am mesmerized (spelling dont count I hope) by the performers, I hope the DVD included a "special section" for the pre-concert stuff...............

Mr. McCartney came out and was in great voice, more so than the first leg. Although we all here knew about the song changes, I truely beleive that the crowd really got into "she's leaving home" I knew it was a great tune, but it really worked well with the "Brian Wilson" like harmonies put in by the group, especially Abraham Jr..

In addition to Friday's show, the song really went over big in L.A. on Monday night. Also well received were the new additions also, Let 'Em In and Michelle.

Prior to Michelle, Paul once again gather several laughs from the audience with his pre-song banter. But to tell you the truth, even I have heard about the hallow leg and the long neck........I still crack up to the story and Paul's Johnny Carson-like facial expressions.....it's all good. So was the show............................................

From Gaylene McFatridge:

I went Platinum ETS. Got center floor row 23. Not nearly as good as last May at Staples, where I got row 13. I'll just say I won't be going ETS "next time" (as Paul says).

Anyway, I left the party very early and struck out for the Pond on my own at 5:45pm. By this time it had started to rain. Got by the back doors and was listening with other fans to the soundcheck through the cracks in the doors. I went round the front at 6:15 and lined up. They didn't open the doors till 7, so we fans were very soaked through by then.

I got my goodies outside. An Adopt-A-Minefield T shirt, a packet of buttons (cool) and my program. When I got in, I went looking for my seat, I walked in behind the stage. This was interesting to me, so I went exploring. The curtains are heavy duty cotton.

Was looking at all the stage and sound equipment. Saw the famous MPL juggler stamped on the side of crates and saw guitar cases. I love the preshow. I noticed it was a bit different, with ballerinas added this time. And Marie Antoinette's costume was lit up.

Weel, the concert was fantastic, of course. I clapped, yelled, sang very loudly and danced until I was totally exhasted. Stood most of the time, which I love. Highlights of the concert for me: I love the John and George tributes the best. All My Loving, Back in the USSR (really kicks a**), Live and Let Die was fantastic with the new flames and fireworks- wow!! I welcomed the addition of Michelle and She's Leaving Home, even though that one disturbed me as I missed John's vocal counterpoint.

One thing I noticed. This tour seemed much louder. My chest was actually vibrating with the bass. Strange but cool.

Met nice fans, which is always fun. Just at the end, a big George fan next to me, got up and started walking towards the front of the stage. I said to myself: GO! Just walked right on up there. I was amazed that security didn't stop me. I was maybe 10 feet away from Paul. Just watched him and the band do their bows and saw Paul signing autographs. I know it sounds silly, but you know, he looks just like Paul.

I was lucky to see Paul three times this year. I'd never seen him before and I've been a Beatles fan for 38 years. I shall cherish these memories forever,
