Paul Boston 9/30/02

Update (10/7/02) From Patti Murawski:

Boston, September 30

Paul arrived at the Fleet Center around 4:50. He came in with a police escort. On his way in he gave an interview with WZLX from his cell phone in the car, which he was still doing when the car drove into the facility.

Paul and the band took the stage just after 8:30. After Jet when he greeted the crowd, Paul said that earlier in the year when he said "see you next time", he didn't think they'd be back this quickly.

After Abe greeted the crowd, Paul said Boston was Abe's hometown, and that Abe's brother and other relatives were in the audience.

Paul wore blue Nehru jacket again, a red long-sleeved t-shirt, and blue jeans. When Paul took off his jacket, the band started playing "The Stripper".

Before "She's Leaving Home," Wix said that when you're making a set list for a tour, many bands have the problem of where to put the hit - at the beginning, at the end? In this case, it's which hit follows that hit, which follows the other hit. He went on to say that they were going to do another of those songs which was recorded and never performed again. He said you'll be among the first people to hear it live.

After "Something," when Paul had finished and everyone was cheering for George, he said "and God bless him!"

When Rusty was introduced and spoke to the audience, he said he'd like to take our picture - "I have a new digital camera, if you could just squeeze together", then he clicked off a photo.

As in April, the Boston audience was fantastic - Paul and the band loved it. Brian commented "You've made a very big place feel like a small, cool club."

Paul again told the story about the guy with the chiropractor sign.

Late in the show Paul said "You KNOW you've been a fantastic audience."

Boston crowds never cease to amaze me and I've been living in N.E. all my life. I remember a wild Wings show at the old Boston Garden back in 1976, and this was right up there. The band was definitely getting an energy boost from the crowd's enthusiasm. One of THE cities to see a show!

More from Patti:

First night in Boston there were several Japanese journalists sitting a few rows behind me. Geoff Baker came up and down the aisle a few times to speak to them. I guess they were in two to check out the show, which as we all know, will be heading to Japan after Paul's done here.

Update (10/4/02) From Jack Suslak:

I want to first tell you that the show Monday was awesome. The energy of Paul and the Band is incredible. How does a guy at 60 sound so awesome? The sound and stage screens were totally top notch. Paul has a great band no wonder he is enjoying the tour so much. I will send more detailed review later. Jack
