Boston - October 1
Paul arrived at the venue at 5:45, with a police flasher on the dashboard of his limo, and a police escort. He put the window down and waved to everyone as the limo passed by. The story we heard about his late arrival was that they wouldn't be doing a soundcheck since they were already set up from the 1st show the night before. He wore the black jacket with shiny pinstripes that he'd worn in Hartford, a red t-shirt with white trim on the arms, and grey pinstripe trousers. Again, the audience reaction was tremendous. Several times during the show Paul mentioned how great the audience was. Paul introduced Abe as "Boston's own", and as the night before, mentioned Abe's brother was in the audience. Paul again talked about the chiropractor in the audience after the massage story, saying the guy had a sign tonight that said "Last Chance Chiro". Paul said "He wants to adjust me", then turned to where the guy was sitting and said "NO!!". In introducing My Love, Paul said he'd written the song for Linda, and said that her sister Louise and her nephew (you could tell he was having a senior moment here, trying to remember the nephews's name and hesitated, you could see a look of panic, and he never said the nephew's name) were in the audience tonight (they live in the greater Boston area). This was followed by his usual dedication of the song, "to lovers everywhere". At one point Paul said to the crowd, "Wasn't it a beautiful day today?" (and it had been - summerlike, 80's and dry) - could anyone but Paul McCartney get people to applaud the weather? He also said Boston is a beautiful city. Despite having the Teleprompter, Paul messed up the words on "Lady Madonna." Brian also mentioned the beautiful day, and what a beautiful city Boston is. Before he introduced Paul he said, You've been such a great audience -- can we take you with us to ALL the shows? We just have a little van but we can cram you all in.At the end of the last encore as the band was starting to walk offstage, Rusty began walking in the wrong direction, mouth agape at the audience reaction. Paul put an arm around him and turned him around to head in the right direction, as Rusty said to Paul "Fantastic!"
And more from Patti:
Second night in Boston, at the end of the show, someone threw up I think, a White Album to be signed. Looked like the whole signature was done.
(10/3/02) From Annie Lynne:
The Oct 1st Boston show was out of this world! Paul mentioned that Linda's sister, Louise, and his nephew were in the audience. Also, couldn't help but notice how moved Paul was as he sang My Love. Afterwards he patted his hand over his heart as the audience cheered.
