Of the four shows I attended this year (two in Chicago, one in Dallas, and one in OKC), the Oklahoma City show was the best. The audience was easily the most enthusiastic. The audience was also far more receptive to the new and lesser known songs than any of the other shows I attended (relatively few made beer and toilet runs during the new songs). A clarification of Brian J.'s previous review, Brian evidently misheard him. Paul never said Heather wasn't in the house. He dedicated the song to someone special in the house as he did at all other shows. Heather came from backstage on the side of stage left when he performed that song and they waved at one another at the song's end. She came out to the front of the stage at stage right midway through the show and danced and clapped and lit a lighter during Let It Be. At the end of the show, a fan threw Paul a bouquet of flowers and as he walked off stage he threw them to Heather. It really was a great show! Oklahoma was never like this!!!
Update (10/18/02) From Brian J.:
Hello. Just wanted to update a few things on my review of the 10-15-02 Macca show at the Ford Center...
Heather may have been there after all, I remember seeing Paul joking with some lady in the pit as he did a typical rock-n-roll kick (But I do recall Paul dedicating "Loving Flame" to Heather who wasn't "In the house tonite"...) at the end of the show as he played bass. She may have shown up later at in the evening. And the interview with KRXO was conducted over a cell phone as Paul headed to the Ford Center.
(10/16/02) From Brian J.:
Just made it home safely after attending the Sir Paul McCartney show in Oklahoma City, And I can honestly say it was worth the money.
We arrived early to avoid the traffic and parking hassles since the Ford Center (An awesome new facility) is basically located on 1 major street and there isnt enough parking for 2 major arenas, (The arena formerly named "the Myriad" is right across the street.) While waiting for the doors to open we were interviewed by reporters who work for the Daily Oklahoman Newspaper on why we would drive a sight distance (About 100 miles one way) to see Mr. McCartney's show and what his appeal was to each of us.(Hopefully that will show up in the newspaper tomorrow morning.) I believe Sir Paul may have flew into OKC the day of the show since his limousine arrived from the direction of the airport. I was asked by a person sitting next to me at the show if I heard his interview on KRXO, Which I didnt even know about. But maybe KRXO interviewed him at the arena after he arrived (Which if I remember right was at about 5:00 to 5:30 PM). His limousine drove in from one direction with police escort (It passed the ramp area closest to the street), Turned at the stoplight proceeded down the street in front of the Ford Center, Turned again at another stoplight, Proceeded down the street to where alot of fans (Probably 30-50) were waiting as the escort entered the rear area of the Ford Center...I don't know if he stopped and signed a couple of autographs or waved out the wndow as they drove by.) The show itself was the same setlist as the previous second leg shows in other cities, With the same in concert jokes about "Massages", "Reading Signs People Brought", Etc. The thing that wasnt typical is that Sir Paul's wife Heather was not at the show...I also believe this show was sold out since I don't remeber seeing any empty seats anywhere once the show started. Anyways, I thought Abe's introduction was funny since he sung a bit of the song "Oklahoma" from the musical of the same name...."O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A..." He seemed a bit ahead of the beat in a couple of places but was a very energetic drummer. Both Rusty Anderson & Brian Ray seemed relaxed for this show. I did not hear anything odd or sloppy from Rusty's solos on the Beatles/Wings classics, He played them very adeptly...And Wix was typical Wix, Great playing as usual. Hopefully Sir Paul will do as he said he would and return to play Oklahoma once more in the future...After all this was his first show ever in the state of Oklahoma...Brian J.
