Paul Tokyo

(11/13/02) From Juan Luis Perello:

Hi! Just to tell you about the great Macca concert in Tokyo:

The gates opened one hour later due to a delay with the soundcheck. The programs were 2500 yen each, and the "Back in the US" CD was everywhere, but it didn't seem to sell as well as the program. On the lobby of Tokyo dome, there were some TV screens airing the "Lonely Road," "Freedom" and "Your Loving Flame" video clips, with very poorly located speakers or no sound at all, I couldn't say.

There was no music before the concert started, only publicity from the main sponsor.

Once the pre-show started (more than half an hour late), most of the audience stood up and remained like that throughout most of the show. They sounded really surprised to hear with Paul's announcements in Japanese, which he did a lot an were quite understandable (it was funny to see him look down to read before "speaking" in japanase). There was also a live translation system with Japanese subtitles on the video screens, which he said it was the first time ever, and he joked saying "the dog is on the banana" to prove it was live.

The set list was exactly like the reviews I`ve read so far, without "Freedom" (fortunately, in my opinion). The sound was excellent and the explosion in "Live and Let Die" sounded really loud. The members of the band also spoke some Japanese during their introductions.

In all, a really good and solid concert.

Thanks for your excellent page and keep up the good work.
