Ringo "Good Morning America" taping Bryant Park, NYC 8/1/03

(8/2/03) From Fred Velez:

Hi Steve,

I just got back from the Ringo mini concert for Good Morning America in NYC at Bryant Park. The park is so conveniently close to my job, I made it to work only a few minutes late after the show was over. I got to Bryant Park at 6 am and there was already a line, but I know the park and found a seat and sat for awhile. I saw the band while they did their sound check, jamming a bit to 'Heard It Through The Grapevine', and they did a run through of the songs they would do for the show, 'Boys', 'Who Can It Be Now?' and 'A Little Help From My Friends'. Soon the crowd was allowed to get near the stage and I moved up to a good spot fairly close. They had a cooking segment with Emerill before Ringo and the All Starrs did their set.

Ringo looked great and John Waite was playing a Hofner Beatle bass and threw guitar picks to the fans. The band did the three numbers they rehearsed earlier, and for 'A Little Help From My Friends', Chef Emerill joined them on congas with a little help from Mark Rivera. The concert was great but all too short. When the show was over, I was on my way out of the park to get to work, and spotted Ringo and Barbara Bach as they were being escorted to their car.

All in all, it was a fun time and not a bad way to start the day, I must say.

Take care,
