8/22/01: Rosemont Theater, Chicago, Ill. Update (9/1/01) From Mike Fameree in Green Bay, Wisc.:

Just a couple notes about the Rosemont show:

- The show was just down the road from Beatlefest Chicago, and as it was 3 days later, there were many Beatlefest attendees in the crowd. I spotted Sam Leach, original Beatles promoter from Liverpool and a special guest at Beatlefest.

- At Beatlefest, there were flyers advertising the Ringo concert. At the bottom of the flyer was a statement regarding the concert being taped for an upcoming DVD release. Not sure if this would be the All- Starr DVD that's upcoming or if this is a future release. (Editor's note: As we've mentioned elsewhere, Image Entertainment says this is not for the upcoming DVD.)

Other than that, the other review pretty much nailed the highlights. Not much different than the previous shows, other than the girl with the "Ringo I'm 16 today" sign getting the birthday kiss and the boy with the "Stick Please" sign getting a drumstick. Ringo did make a comment about another kid, hoping that the child wasn't his!!

Thanks much for the excellent website.

From Ben Popovich:

What can I say...absolutely amazing. With these musicians and their various musical backgrounds, I just can't believe how tight this band was. The setlist was pretty much the same as all the previous setlists.

Ringo interacted with the crowd on several occasions. In one of the many highlights of the show, a woman held up a sign that said "Ringo, I turn 16 today" and Ringo called her up to the front of the stage and gave her a birthday kiss. Another highlight was when a boy was holding up a sign asking for a drumstick, and Ringo called him up and handed him one.

As far as musically, there were many highlights. During "Cleveland Rocks" Ian Hunter substituted various Chicago references in an audience response sections such as "Chicago Rocks!", "The Cubs Rock!", and "The White Sox Rock!" Sheila E was amazing on "Glamourus Life." She had a solo, then the crowd egged her on for more, and she gave us more. After her second solo, she collapsed on the floor! Ringo was very energetic on every song and lived up to all expectations I could have hoped for.

A side note, and forgive me if I'm reciting old news, but there was a sign on the door (I grabbed myself a copy) saying... "THIS PERFORMANCE IS BEING RECORDED, VIDEO TAPED, AND PHOTOGRAPHED FOR TV AND COMMERCIAL RELEASE. UPON ENTERING THE VENUE, YOU GRANT PERMISSION TO USE YOUR NAME AND LIKENESS" Looks like we may see a CD and DVD come out of this show, or this tour. There were many camera men and even a crane recording the entire show. (Editor's note: A Ringo DVD is coming later this year, but from what we know, it will not include the 2001 tour.)

Anyways, thanks for your efforts on this website. I check it daily, and always find myself on the cutting edge of Beatles news. Thanks.
~Ben Popovich
