Aug 11: Harbor Center, Portsmouth, VA (8/13/01)
And from Fred Lark:

A little mini-overview of the show at The Harbor Center in Portmouth on August 11th, as I didn't take my usual notes this time. Of the many (16) ASB shows I've seen, the audience on the easternshore was about the most "into it" I've seen.

It was a H-O-T & HUMID night, but it was mild in comparison to the band, who really cooked, and was very appreciate of the responsive crowd. They were loud and always on their feet at the right time, but not obnoxious in any way (near capacity, with some general admission/lawn still available). If Ringo & Co. had ever felt the urge to break tradition on this tour and add a third encore, I think this could've easily been the night.

The show lineup is of the normal usual listing. Both Ringo and Sheila E threw out sticks, and Ringo a towel (she gave him a HUGE Beatle Bear hug as Ringo sat on his drumstool when she came back to her kit after her second song.) I tried to tempt him with my usual inflatable yellow sub after "You're 16" for use as a prop. He didn't wave it on that night, but still mentioned "That guy REALLY knows this song". Thanks for the acknowledgment Ritchie! And he did give a lucky female-front rower a handshake close to the finale.

If there are in fact future ASB's, I'm sure they've found the 'shore area of Virginia to be a hot site. The NORVA club date last tour & The Harbor Center this go round (I think both venues are run by the same group).., and both were tremendous efforts!!

And a final hats off to the nice staff at the H.C. They weren't stormtroopers when it came to cameras if you were 'cool'.., but they did keep people seated and where they were supposed to be, so everyone could enjoy the performance! A job well done, and one that other venue staff could learn from! FRED LARK
