Ringo & the ASB started right on time and followed the same set-list they have been in recent shows. The band (once again decidedly eclectic) work well together and clearly are having a good time. Roger Hodgeson seems particularly smitten and gushed a couple of times from the stage about how "If all bands were like this it'd be a different industry."
The stand-out was certainly Ian Hunter. He acted the part of a real rock star & got the really crowd going a couple of times. Uncasville Rocks, indeed!
The venue was the much larger "tent" that holds about 5-6,000 people or so. Ringo made a joke about how they'd "splashed out a little money" for the bigger place but the show definitely suffered from the lack of intimacy that was so much a part of his prior shows at Mohegan Sun. (Last year was about as close to a Storytellers gig as you'll ever get!)
He seemed a little more on auto-pilot this year, but not while behind the drums. He was really playing hard most of the time he was on his kit, which was a real treat. Boys, in particular, rocked!
Honestly, though, Sheila E. didn't impress me in the least (I've seen her several other times & from a musicians' stand-point I just don't get her appeal). Greg Lake held down the bottom end like an anchor.
The only real complaint was the high number of slow numbers in the set. But all-in-all a splendid time!
