8/27/01: Portland, OR - Arlene Schnitzer Hall (8/29/01)
From Ed Illingworth:

Hi Steve,

I just returned a few hours ago from seeing Ringo in Portland Oregon tonight (Monday 8/28/01) and first of all I’d like to say how much I love this web site. I’ve had http://www.best.com/~abbeyrd/ as my default home page for what seems like years now. I mostly stay quiet and just read all the great things you all post here. Keeps me forever young sometimes if you know what I mean. Keep up the great work, I’ve been following all the reviews!

It was impossible to meet Ringo before or after the concert but it was a loads of fun. My 9 year old son Eddie came with me tonight as he had before when we saw Ringo & the All Starrs when they were here in Portland last on 4/30/97 at the Schnitzer Auditorium. He was great of course, very great shape, very energetic, just looking really great! As with the show in 97, the entire band was in top form. All the musicians were very good and the sound was super. Here's my attempt at the set list although I may be off on a few song names or their order: 1. Photograph 2. Act Naturally 3. Court of The Crimson King 4. Logical Song 5. No One Is To Blame 6. Cleveland Rocks 7. Love Bizarre 8. Boys 9. Give A Little Bit 10. You're Sixteen 11. Yellow Submarine 12. Karn Evil 13. I'm The Greatest 14. No No Song 15. Back Off Boogaloo 16. Things Can Only get Better 17. Glamorous Life 18. I Wanna Be Your Man 19. Lucky Man 20. Everlasting Love 21. The Long Way Home 22. All The Young Dudes 23. It Don't Come Easy 24. Don't Go Where The Road Don't Go 25. With A Little Help From My Friends A really enjoyable evening for everyone, the band was having a lot of fun and it really made for a great show! Howard Jones on keyboard was great. Sheila E. is spectacular on drums & she kept Ringo going all night. Being a drummer myself, I really enjoyed this special treat. Hogson is an excellent all around musician as was Ian Hunter, Greg Lake and Mark Rivera. The audience was a diverse mix of all ages. One of the funniest moments was when Ringo was in between songs & talking to the audience. He happened to notice that there was a singe language (for the deaf) interpreter there off to the left of the stage. Ringo mumbles a bunch of nonsensical words & asks her to translate this to the audience. Then he turns toward Howard & says “she’s probably wondering what the f**k I’m talking about”. His humor is so non-threatening and pleasant, I don’t know of anyone else who could have pulled that off so pleasingly funny. He continued to joke with Sheila & the audience throughout the entire night. As is always with Ringo, he continues to be ever so funny. If Ringo performs near your city, you must go see him and the All Starrs. It's well worth spending the time to fulfill your life with a man for all reasons! Peace & Love from Oregon!
