(7/26/03) From Dave Thomas:
Hi Steve:Ringo's tour got off to a great start at Casino Rama on Thursday night (July 24). This was a great version of the All-Starr Band. They really meshed together well.
It's obvious why Ringo asked Sheila E and Mark Rivera to come back. Sheila is a powerhouse percussionist. And Mark is so versatile - he played, at various times, flute, sax, harmonica, rhythm guitar, bass, percussion and some keyboards. Colin Hay, John Waite and Paul Carack are great instrumentalists in their own right, and performed some great tracks. Ringo was as relaxed (yet energetic) and playful as ever. He was evidently having a great time. (Ditto for the rest of the band and the audience.) Some highlights - Two great Beatles numbers (although Ringo didn't participate in those) and Don't Pass Me By, which I wasn't expecting. Here's the set list. Lead vocals by Ringo except where noted: 1. It Don't Come Easy
2. Honey Don't
3. Memphis In Your Mind
4. How Long - Paul
5. Land Down Under - Colin
6. Isn't It Time - John
7. A Love Bizarre - Sheila
8. Boys
9. Overkill - Colin
10. Act Naturally
11. You're Sixteen
12. Yellow Submarine
13. We Can Work It Out - Paul, John, Colin, Sheila, Mark (Ringo off stage)
14. Here Comes The Sun - Paul, John, Colin, Sheila, Mark (Ringo off stage)
15. Never Without You
16. Don't Pass Me By (Ringo on piano for the first verse; the violin part was done on harmonica by Mark, John played a Hoffner)
17. No No Song
18. Tempted - Paul
19. When I See You Smile - John
20. The Glamorous Life - Sheila
21. Sheila Drum Solo - Sheila
22. I Wanna Be Your Man
23. Living Years - Paul
24. Missing You - John
25. Who Can It Be Now - Colin
26. Photograph
27. Don't Go Where The Road Don't Go
28. With A Little Help From My Friends I hope everyone who has tickets for this tour enjoys the show as much as we did. Ciao.
From Christopher Clause:
Hello Steve! I just wanted to write to give you a bit of info from the Ringo show last night at Casino Rama. David Fishof, the producer or the tour, came out and announced that they were filming the performance for a future broadcast - sounds like it could be for a future TV event. He did not give any other information other than that. So, keep listening for future updates, folks! Steve, you always do a great job of keeping us informed! The show was very enjoyable - but of course, the band was lacking in the guitar department (Colin Hay did a good job, but he is a songwriter, not a guitar player!). Some highlights from the show were of course, the fabulous Shiela E (who had another mishap THIS year - Two years ago before the first Casino Rama show, she got a black eye from some mishap. This year she fell down a flight of stairs and was at the hospital that afternoon. What a great performer she is - she got the crowd going, and she was a wonderful soloist, with great admiration for Ringo (heartfelt comments that were sincere!). One quote: "It is an honour and a privilege to be your drummer". Ringo looks great, and he is playing the best he has ever played (and vocally he sounds great too!). Great songs from the band - a big 80's trip, but that is fun for those of us who grew up then! My wife enjoyed this show much more than 2 years ago, but for me, I wish that Ringo would have played more from the new album AND toured with the Roundheads. I was happy that he played my fave song (and probably everyone else's) from RINGO RAMA! I don't want to give away anything (although I think all the secrets have been given away on his website or in interviews), but it is a very enjoyable show! I would have taken my daughter (who absolutely LOVES Ringo) but being a CASINO they had age restrictions..ugg! If you are thinking about going, love Ringo, and enjoy MEN AT WORK, JOHN WYATT, the great songs of Paul Carrack, and the amazing Sheila E., you will love it! I'd like to know if people coming to the show could update us as to whether or not they taped YOUR show too (probably will!) HAVE A GREAT SUMMER STEVE (and to all Beatle people!) PS On a personal note, I don't like shows at Casino Rama. We had 2nd row, but they were crummy seats off to the side that shouldn't have been seats AND They would not let us go to the front ot the stage because we were upfront (and paid more for our seats - which again, weren't real seats! Shame on Casino Rama!!). If you have F1 seats, be warned! They are crummy!
